You probably never heard of Mkuki soldiers, or Barabara Vita, the road wars that devastated part of Africa in the days that preceded the construction of the Orbital Elevator of Orbital East Africa. Hui, they are only a footnote in the pages of history, but at the time, they were such a brutal tragedy as all that the African continent saw. At the time, a number of companies were competing by drawing lines of communication and commerce towards the orbital elevator. Many of these routes crossed ancestral tribal territories, so that rival tribes were enlisted and armed to expel people and clear the way for new roads, or to murder workers from other companies. The methods of these irregular troops were Wild and they were known as Mkuki soldiers ("launches" in Swahili) for their habit of climbing their victims in order to sow terror in the population. Over time, Mkuki soldiers have been declared war criminals and dissolved. Some of them paid for their crimes, but many have hid among the refugees moved by the work of the orbital elevator
